Cathay Dragon was a Hong Kong based international regional airline, serving roughly 50 destinations mainly in Asia. Its fleet consisted entirely of Airbus aircraft, specifically A320s, A321s and A330s. It was a 100% subsidiary of Cathay Pacific and thus in the One World Alliance. The airline was founded in 1985 as Dragonair and initially found it difficult to compete on Cathay Pacific routes due to the Hong Kong government's one route - one airline policy. The airline subsequently concentrated on routes to Mainland China.
In 1990, Cathay Pacific acquired a stake in Cathay Dragon. In 1993, the first Airbus A320 joined the fleet, followed by the first A330 in 1995. In 1996, Cathay Pacific took over Cathay Dragon completely. From then on, the airline was rather downsized and renamed from Dragonair to Cathay Dragon in 2016.
On 21 October 2020, it was announced that Cathay Dragon would cease operations altogether due to the aftermath of Covid 19. Almost the entire staff was laid off.
We are very pleased to be able to offer you a piece of Asian aviation history. B-HIS was an Airbus A320-232 and had its maiden flight on 20 November 1998. The aircraft was delivered to Dragonair in 1999, decommissioned in 2020 as part of the Cathay Dragon liquidation and ultimately dismantled in 2022.
