Celebrating Aviation History: Monarch Airlines' Airbus A320 and Boeing 757 join our aircrafttag collection
We are excited to announce the latest additions to our aircrafttag lineup: the Airbus A320 (registration G-ZBAP) and Boeing 757 (registration G-MONK), both of which were proudly flown under the banner of Monarch Airlines. These tags not only embody the spirit of aviation but also carry the storied legacy of one of the UK's most beloved carriers.
Monarch Airlines: A Legacy of Service
Founded in 1967, Monarch Airlines began its journey at Luton Airport with a Bristol Britannia, focusing initially on charter flights before expanding into scheduled service. Known for its distinctive yellow and black livery, Monarch became a familiar sight in skies across Europe. The airline stood as a symbol of British holidaymaking, often being the first choice for travelers headed to sunnier European destinations.
Over the decades, Monarch expanded its fleet and destinations, navigating the ups and downs of the aviation industry with a focus on customer service and operational efficiency. It operated a diverse fleet of aircraft, including the Airbus A320 and Boeing 757, which were known for their reliability and comfort.
Monarch's financial problems grew and a strategic realignment was carried out. Charter flights were discontinued, the A330 long-haul fleet was given up and the focus was now on the low-cost segment. In 2015, the last Boeing 757 left the fleet and it was decided to exclusively operate B737s. But it didn't happen anymore because flight operations were stopped on October 2, 2017.
Airbus A320 - G-ZBAP
The Airbus A320 is renowned worldwide for its pioneering technology and role in shaping modern air travel. G-ZBAP was initially delivered to Air 2000, which was later renamed to First choice Airways, as G-OOAT in 2001.After severals mergers and takeovers, this a320 was operated by Monarch from 2014 onwards.It flew countless passengers across Europe, embodying Monarch’s commitment to quality and service. As a pivotal model in the Airbus family, the A320 is celebrated for its innovation and efficiency, making it a staple in fleets around the globe.
Boeing 757 - G-MONK
The Boeing 757 is known for its exceptional performance, often being touted as the powerful workhorse of the short to medium-haul market. G-MONK was delivered to Monarch in 1988 and operated by the British airline until 2014. Its ability to operate both short and longer flights made it indispensable for the airline's operations, particularly on routes where demand or runway length would not justify a larger aircraft.
