D-AXGA: The Story of an A330-203, From First Flight to Farewell

The D-AXGA, an Airbus A330-203, has a storied history, spanning from its first flight in June 2003 to its retirement and scrapping in 2024. Powered by two GE CF6-80E1A3 engines, this impressive long-haul aircraft was originally delivered to Taiwanese airline EVA Air, where it excelled on international routes.

A New Chapter with Eurowings

In July 2015, D-AXGA transitioned to the German carrier Eurowings and was operated by SunExpress Deutschland from the very beginning. The aircraft accommodated 310 passengers in a comfortable two-class configuration, making it ideal for medium- and long-haul flights. Over the years, it became a favorite among travelers for its spacious comfort and reliable performance on popular holiday routes.

One of the most remarkable aspects of D-AXGA was its callsign: “Sunrise.” This name perfectly captured the essence of soaring into the skies with the sun on distant journeys.

The "Cuba" Special Livery: A Flying Work of Art

What made D-AXGA truly stand out was its striking "Cuba" special livery, which adorned the aircraft in its final years. This vibrant livery, a tribute to the tropical colors and cultural richness of Cuba, gave the plane a distinctive look that caught the attention of both passengers and aviation enthusiasts.

After being retired from service in March 2020, D-AXGA was stored in Munich until its scrapping in 2024. However, the story of this unique aircraft doesn’t end with its last flight. Thanks to a charity auction organized by help alliance, a significant portion of the “Cuba” livery was secured for a good cause. Collectors and aviation enthusiasts alike now have the opportunity to own a piece of this aircraft’s legacy, with the contribution to help alliance already fulfilled through the acquisition of the aircraft’s skin.

Farewell to an Icon

The retirement of D-AXGA marked the end of an era. After more than 20 years of service—first with EVA Air and later with Eurowings—this aircraft witnessed countless journeys, adventures, and memories. From its first flight in 2003 to its final days in Munich in 2024, D-AXGA was a steadfast companion of the skies.

But its legacy continues. We have transformed the iconic aircraft’s skin, including the vibrant "Cuba" livery, into unique tags and beautiful coasters—our most colorful collection yet. Customers can now own not only a piece of aviation history but also one of the most stunning tags we've ever produced. While the aircraft itself may no longer soar, its story lives on in these special keepsakes.
